Completed EPC 69kV x 115kV Ring Bus Switchyards for Major California Irrigation District

Electrical Switchyard Suppliers Project Scope:
Engineer, procure, construct and commission a total Electrical Switchyards system including breakers, dead ends, utility metering, steel, switches, 69kV and 115kV SF6 power circuit breakers and control building.

Electrical Switchyard Design Factors:
Power plant needed to generate power to either the 69kV or 115kV systems requiring ring buses at both voltages. Foundations needed to be auger cast piles to handle poor soil conditions.

Electrical Switchyard Key Issues:   

The site, infiltrated with water, made civil design for foundations difficult. In addition, the switchyards needed to be energized six months prior to the remainder of the generating facility being completed. Due to logistics, an overhead portion of bus could not be completed during normal construction, requiring PSD to remobilize to complete construction of the project.

Electrical Switchyard Engineering & Construction Solutions:
PSD subcontracted a local electrical construction firm with vast local knowledge, enabling PSD to respond as labor requirements dictated to complete this project. PSD also provided full-time site construction management for seamless communication between the client and PSD.
