New 120kV Substation for Major Great Lakes Area Investor-Owned Utility

Project Scope:
Design, supply and install a complete system including steel, bus, breakers, control house, relay, protection and metering for a new 120kV substation to feed a major automotive parts manufacturer’s world headquarters. PSD provided all engineering, project management, site management, coordination and start-up as a turnkey service to the customer.

Design Factors:
Web bus design required manufacturer to provide bus calculations.

Key Issues:   

The site contained wetlands requiring mitigation measures. Customer required the use of integral web bus and wanted to use their existing five year old transformer. Utility standards dictated the fence be grounded separate from the station ground.

Engineering & Construction Solutions:
PSD hired a local civil and structural firm to provide design and environmental services for the project. PSD
managed many design changes to the station without impacting the energization schedule.
